United Air Lines and Boeing Planes—20 Hours Coast-to-Coast

Forty of these new type, low-wing, all-metal Boeing monoplanes are in service on United Air Lines' Coast-to-Coast route. This airplane was selected as the only modern airplane to be exhibited in the "Dome" of the Travel and Transport Building, because it represents the latest features of airplane design and construction. Powered with two 550 h.p. supercharged Wasp engines they have a high speed of more than three miles a minute. They land at the low speeed of 59 miles an hour and take off after a run of only 770 feet. They can climb, fully loaded, 1320 feet per minute and to 10,000 feet in eleven minutes. These planes can climb with only one of their two engines if necessary.

Air Liner is Flying City

With its passenger accommodations, storage space, its power, heating and lighting plants, its telephone system and other features, this Boeing Wasp-powered plane of United Air Lines represents the latest in airplane design and construction. Ten passengers occupy comfortable reclining chairs in the cabin, which is in charge of a stewardess. The pilot and mate control the plane from the cockpit. Mail, express and baggage are carried in the compartments at the front and rear.
