Tasha

Tasha's motto: Girls just want to have fun.

Tasha was adopted October 24, 1998. Like Tigger she was 2 years old and from the Animal Humane Society of Hennepin County. I found her at a PetsMart Adoption Center. I wanted a female brown tabby with a friendly disposition to be a companion for Tigger, and Tasha seemed to fit my criteria.

Tasha had gum disease when I got her. The vet told me to feed her dental diet food, but that didn't help because she swallowed the food without chewing. The first year I had her, she always smelled bad from a combination of bad breath, smelly saliva, and not cleaning herself enough. I didn't realize how bad the gum disease was until I took her for an exam a year later. She had to have many of her teeth removed then, and some more the following year. Some of her teeth apparently just fell out by themselves. Now she only has about eight teeth left. I brush her teeth almost every day, her gums have healed, she cleans herself well, and she smells nice.

Tasha is very sweet but very different from Tigger. Tasha is friendly with visitors, greeting them at the door. Tasha is a good lap sitter. Unfortunately, she also likes to lie on my legs when I am in bed.

Tigger and Tasha were together for three years but never learned to be good friends. At first, Tasha attacked Tigger. Then she tried to be friends with Tigger, but he did not like to be near her. Tasha continued to bully Tigger. Tasha was very playful and loved to grab toys away from Tigger.

Tigger died in October 2001. Now Tasha has a new companion, Shelby. Tasha used to run around and play a lot by herself. She hasn't played much since I got Shelby. Although Tasha and Shelby get along fairly well most of the time, Tasha seems to be intimidated by Shelby. Shelby likes to pounce at Tasha. When Tasha feels Shelby is invading her space, she hisses at Shelby and sometimes flops on her back with claws extended. They gradually seem to be getting more friendly toward each other.
