INTRODUCTION This web site was created for an assignment in a Dreamweaver Web Tools class in the Electronic Publishing & Web Design Department at Minneapolis Community & Technical College. The assignment was to create a web site based on a fairy tale, targeting the site for a specific audience. The target audience for this site is adult college students studying English as a second language (ESL). Based on the choice of this audience, it was decided that the mood of the site should be quiet and academic. Since the site is intended for reading and learning, the design is more book-like than web-like. It includes self-testing exercises with each of the fairy tales. The choice of fairy tales was more difficult than anticipated. Although there are many fairy tales available on the Internet, most are not suitable for the target audience. The main considerations when choosing the tales were:
The tales are slighly edited versions of tales found on the Internet. Reading levels were determined using the readability statistics tool in Microsoft Word. |
